I bought this book for my nephew for his 6th birthday and he hasn't put it down. LOVES it!

I bought this as a birthday present for my son, who was turning 8. He's really into Star Wars right now. He reads it every night and likes to draw the characters in the book. He had the visual dictionary for Episode III. Of course he likes this one more since it includes characters from all 6 episodes. The information in the book about all the major and minor characters in the movies is really interesting. I often find myself reading this book, too.

If you're a Star Wars fan like me you're going to love this book. I love DK books because they are so vivid. They have pictures along with a detailed description of the character, ship, droid of equipment. It even shows you pictures of characters that you don't really see in the movies. If you're not familiar with the movies this books will definitely get you on the right track as well as offer a few surprises along the way.

The contents of the book is great. The problem is that I ordered it to give as a gift. What I recieved for my $27 was a book that looked like it came from a yard sale. The corners were banged up as if the book had been repeatedly dropped and the paper cover was scratched and torn. I definitely expected more for my money, particularly since it was not advertised as a remainder or anything else that would have told me the condition would not be first quality. This is not the first tine I've had this experience with Amazon.

The book is of high quality...many details...very good photography. The price was less than in some mail catalogs...great!

I bought this book last Christmas (2007) for my two young sons (6 and 4). They have spent the past year pouring over this book, debating facts about the characters, and writing their own stories to compliment the illustrations in the book. They haven't seen all of the Star Wars films (only A New Hope) but are thrilled by the detailed illustrations and descriptions of the characters, the far away galaxies, and of course the weapons and ships. This is their favorite Star Wars book. As an adult fan of Star Wars I find it is full of great information and back stories about the characters. My husband and I have found answers to many of our Star Wars questions here. This is a great reference and a really fun book.

I really like this book too, it has a ton of detailed info and images on pretty much all the Star Wars creatures and characters. However I noticed that the image of the Boushh costume is not accurate, it is missing her big obi belt, which is a substantial part of her outfit. (Actually I think it's in there but it's under the jacket instead of over it, ...so weird.) I only find this an issue because I am making a Boushh costume and figured this book would be a good reference.

It's still full of info, and a good resource for people interested in learning more about characters in the Star Wars universe, just know that for whatever reason the images might not be completely accurate.

I bought this book for my seven year old emerging Stars Wars fan. He LOVES this book and brings it with him everywhere. The book is great as it has all the characters from all the movies. The pictures are great as well as all the information about the characters.

I wasn't sure what exactly to expect from this book. When I got it and started looking at the page after page of amazing documented discriptions of anything and everything you would see in these movies I was so pleased with my purchase. The only thing I noticed was the emphisis on Episodes 1-3 and remaining episodes were all lumped together in a quick glance almost. The book is amazing non the less and I am more then pleased with it, and can't wait to give it to my significant other for his birthday.

Got it as birthday present for my 5 year old. We all love it. He pours through the photos by himself, we read it together. I am learning all sorts of details (and they are plenty) about all the star wars characters. Who knew! This book could be the movie prop person's notebook/bible it is so complete and thorough.

The only drawback is my son finds the picture of darth sith too scary and we have to rush past that page. Oh well. Get it, great price, worth every penny.

WOW!!! This is the perfect book for anyone interested in knowing their stuff in the Star Wars world. Every character is represented according to chapter so some characters are represented more than once. Anakin is shown as a child in Episode I but is shown older in the next episode, etc. The book is divided by Episodes. Information on star ships, Tie Fighters, Light Sabres and more are also included in this book along with photos for each and every reference. This book is not only for children but adults can learn a thing or two from its contents.

This is a beautifully put-together and remarkably detailed book for hard-core fans of the STAR WARS films. Purporting to be a dictionary, it is really more of a picture guide to the characters, monsters, gadgets and weaponry featured in all six episodes of the series. It also provides a small amount of character backstory not mentioned, or only hinted at, in the movies, but almost completely ignores developments in the "expanded universe", which was fine with me since I personally have little interest in it.

It is organized in chronological order, with one chapter each for each SW episode, beginning with EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE and ending with EPISODE VI: RETURN OF THE JEDI. Each chapter is a self-contained unit, so there are multiple entries and bios for recurring characters like Palpatine, Count Dooku and, Obi-Wan Kenobi and of course, Darth Vader, each one dealing with the character at that particular stage of his life. However, single-movie characters like General Grievous also get their just due. Accoutrements and weapons are explored in equal detail, for example, the lightsaber, the Jedi fighter, the AT-AT walker, etc. In adidtion, there is a great deal of information about stormtroopers (Republican and Imperial) and the battle droids of the Confederation of Independent Systems.

The DICTIONARY is gorgeous but not perfect. The book is of the coffee-table variety, meaning it is too large for the standard bookshelf, and fans of the original series will be annoyed by the fact that the chapters dealing with the original three movies are given short shrift compared to the prequels - the entries for MENACE, CLONES and SITH are twice the length of those for A NEW HOPE, EMPIRE and JEDI. Aside from that, however, the book is enjoyable and probably a must-have for fans.

The Complete Visual Dictionary of Star Wars: The Ultimate Guide to Characters and Creatures from the Entire Star Wars Saga Was exactly what my 7 year old son was looking for. Great pictures and descriptions, he spends hours looking through it. Would be a must have for any Star Wars fan.

I bought this encyclopedia for my nine year old who is a Star Wars freak. (My brother and I were born in the 70's so we are pretty much star wars freaks as well.) The book is engrossing - it's hard to walk away from it once you start flipping through the pages. The amount of detail given is incredible. Most fans will find they learn something new about the Star Wars universe from this book. This book covers characters, weapons, vehicles,plot points, worlds, etc. from all six movies. It is heavier on the most recent three however. So, our main complaint (and the reason this book does not receive 5 stars from us) would be that there is not enough information on episodes 4-6.

I ordered this book for my son using a gift certificate he received Christmas Day. It actually arrived on Dec. 26th via messenger. My son was thrilled to get it so soon. It's a fabulous book for Star Wars Fanatics and a good tool to get your Star Wars fan to read for hours and hours!

This is a fabulous array of just about everything you ever wanted to know in the star wars realm. I bought it for a boy who doesn't like to read but this has worked a treat. He is reading and I haven't had to yell at him to do it. Win / win. The book is full colour with close to 300 pages. Represents excellent value.

My husband and I purchased this book for our 6-yr-old grandson as a Christmas present. He sat right down and began looking at the pictures. It was amazing how much he had already learned about the Star Wars Saga (he has seen all of the films's) and is completely enthralled (as was his Dad as his age)!! Great book for anyone but especially for his age bracket. Everything is laid out and explained. I'm sure this will be one of his favorite books (along with the Dinosaur book collection!).

We borrowed this book from the library once for our 4 year old son who is really into Star Wars. He really liked big size pictures of the characters in this book. He started asking us to borrow it over and over so we ended up buying this book for him. He really likes it.

I bought both this book and "The Ultimate Visual Guide" for my boys, ages 3, 8 and 38(my husband), and they all love these books. I researched the other reviews before I purchased, and I knew this was going to be a great purchase! There was one review that said that these books together compliment each other, or something like that, and I agree, they sound like they would be repetitive of each other, but really they go "hand in hand" with each other. "The Complete Visual Dictionary" tells the reader all about EVERYTHING in EVERY movie, all the weapons used, every character, every last detail. "The Ultimate Visual Guide", "includes detailed information about the evolution and production of the movies, from the first Star Wars movie to the theatrical release of the final film, Revenge of the Sith."- (this is straight from the Introduction page in the book). They also give great information behind the characters, making the movies even more interesting to watch.

i gave this book to my nephew for Christmas. He is eight years old, and he could not put it down over the last few days. He left it sort of permanently parked on the kitchen table, and everybody who sat down there, adults and children, male or female, became absorbed in it. Lucas's world is as detailed and ornate in its way as Tolkien's, and the beautiful DK pictures and text illuminate this world in a way that merely watching the movies can never do.

The grandson that I purchased the book for loved it! In fact, all the adults who are Star War fanatics wanted to see it and take a look through the pages! I probably will be ordering several more.

This book is extraordinary. The pictures are sharp and extremely detailed. There are explanations of many characters that are only seen in the background scenes. I highly recommend if you're a Star Wars fan. My 4 year old won't give it up.

I bought this for my 6 year old who is a Star Wars FREAK. He sat down with this book immediately and has not really stopped looking at it since. He can barely read, but he loves examining all of the characters, and the way they are broken down and labeled is very exciting to him. He likes to see everything that he's seen in the movies, and video game, in full detail.
I can't comment on how this book is similar or different to any other book, but I can say, it's very detailed, it covers a lot of information and describes alot of the relationships and uses of the characters & items. My 6 year old can identify way more than I can. This book is well set up, with loads of information and LOTS AND LOTS of details full color high quality photos which is just what we were looking for.

My son constantly wants to look at this book, and he is only 6 and has never seen any of the movies. That pretty much says how good this book is. I grew up with the original Star Wars movies, so looking through this book is like looking into the past for me. It is well put-together, very concise with a lot of nice photos and a plethora of Star Wars information. An excellent resource for any Star Wars aficionado.

This book is just fantastic, and it is worth every penny. I originally bought it for my friends son who loves Star Wars. The kid walked around with the book under his arm like a bible! He never put it down. I recently bought it for my own two elementary age boys and they love it just as much. This is wonderful gift to get for any Star Wars fan -- Once again DK has cornered the market on wonderful visual books for young children. Their books are so well executed and so wonderfully edited, they know exactly how to appeal to this age group by giving just enough information with out making it too simple. An adult fan would actually love this book too. It's a great purchase.

I purchased this book for my 9-year-old son who has been a Star Wars fan for a few years. He has spent hours looking through the book on his own or alongside his friends. I have never seen the movies and I have little knowledge of the people in them, but I could easily learn A LOT from this book if I wanted to. The pictures of the people and tools/weapons are great! I also like the fact that they show pictures from movie scenes that depict the people or the tools being discussed on that particular page. This was a great price for a large hardcover book with great details and pictures!

I have a previous complete visual dictionary for Episode 4,5,6. There is a lot copied directly from that book. I did not find any additional characters for 4,5,6 added to this book. I was looking for Niem (Sullustan) that flew the Falcon in 6 with LAndo. He is not in either book. So it is not totally complete as the book indicates. I is fun to browse the book to get a better look at acessories and character traits and such, but I would not consider it the complete guide. The internet had more info available and it was free.

Amazing overveiw of the star wars saga. Every character that I've ever seen in the movies are in here with complete and detailed description of things I would have never thought I'd need to know. Great book for any Star Wars fan.

I won't go too far into the basics of the book as there are plenty good reviews here that do that. I will say if you can only have one book go give you information on all sorts of details in the Star Wars movies universe this is the only book you need. It covers characters, events, equipment, weapons, ships, and the background histories of all this stuff too. It's a single source for fleshing out the Star Wars mythos and putting you further into the fantasy George Lucas creates so many decades ago.

This book is essentially collecting the pages of all four previous Star Wars Visual Dictionaries into a single volume. Great way to save space on the bookshelf or coffee table, that's for sure. Also a great way to save a little money for you first time buyers by getting just one book instead of three. The one thing about the book (or rather books, as they did it too) is that some characters are on every chapter. Mainly R2-D2... he gets these giant splash pages on every chapter. I mean I love the little, but c'mon!

Now between you and me there is more to this collection than reprinting the four previous books into one. There is extra information in here too. Now the chapters covering Episodes one and two are identical to the previous books with the exception of losing the pictures that were on the inside cover and title page. The chapter that covers episode three has an additional 12 pages on top of all the original pages (again... minus the side-photos). Now I never got the original Dictionary on the original trilogy, but I can confirm there are at least four additional pages of content from that section.

I'm sure this volume has ticked off devoted fans who bought the previous books, but if you ask me it can still be a worthwhile investment. I'm not just talking about the 16+ extra pages, but the smaller shelf space as well. Think of it this way. Most of you had a few years to enjoy those other Dictionary books before this came out so in the words of an accountant you have already built value from the depreciation. Even if you bought a previous book or three this would still be a great buy (sell your old books, save that book space).

I had three of the four previous books and I am glad I have the new volume. This book is a good buy no matter how you slice it.

I got this for my 8 year old son, who loves all the Star Wars movies, but doesn't always like to read. I have been hoping to find him books that would capture his imagination, and this book absolutely did. He's been poring over it almost every day since I got it a month ago, and has practically memorized it. He also takes it with him to school to share with his friends, who also seem to love it. I highly recommend it.

This book allows you to go in depths of the characters of Star Wars and some who are not mentioned often. Find the many devices that R2-D2 has that makes him a lovable driod. It has detail descriptions of weapons, data files, and much more.

I purchased The Visual Dictionary of Star Wars as a gift for my 2 year old grandson after I had bought him the action figures from the movies. He had watched the movies with his dad who has been a Star Wars fan since he was a youngster. I chose this visual dictionary because of the great photographs of all the characters, creatures and even the weaponry as well as the explanation of each character, etc. All are dealt with in great detail and help to explain to my grandson about each character. This 2 year old carries this book around with him and sits and explores the book by matching his figures with their pictures in the book. He can tell you on which page each character is found and knows them all by name. I have been amazed by this little boy's interest in this book. He is continually wanting someone to "read Star Wars to me" and, of course, we oblige him. This book is a super hit with the entire family. It is the best book of its kind I have ever seen. The book is written on an adult level, but you can be assured it is colorful, well-written, and entertaining to all who pick it up. I will probably buy myself a copy now, so I can learn more about all the world of Star Wars. It is a great coffee table book, also, and invites every visitor to reach out, open the book and become totally engrossed in it! I highly recommend the book for ALL!!!

My 9 year old son has spent HOURS reading every caption and description! He gets it for reference when he watches one of the Star Wars movies. Best surprise I ever got for him. I also got a copy for a 21 year old guy and he loves it, too.

I bought this book for my 10-year old son. He is the ultimate Star Wars fan. He has been unable to put it down since he got it for Easter. The pictures are outstanding. All of the movies are covered and they had detailed descriptions of things even my son did not know. Great book would recomend for old and young alike. The price for this guide is great because it includes all the information from all the singular books in one cover. Great.

I found this book on Amazon for almost $15 less than at the store. I bought it for my kids who got into Star Wars because of Star Was Lego video games. It has a bios, great pictures and info on most evey character and many which I didn't know or forgt exisited. This is better than getting all the individual books.

The book is probably for age 12+ but my 7yr olds twins love the pictures in it.
